Haha, not quite what I meant. Punching the opposition would affect the game more than Jeronimo's dive did.

I do think its silly that the FFA couldn't downgrade Sigmund's red to a yellow.

Ah so you would then by extension agree that the dive should also have been punished.

The dive caused the red,if he doesn't go down, siggy would not have been sent off. If he didnt dive then he would have either reached the ball (and siggy wouldnt have denied a goalscoring opportunity) or paston would have caught it (which is what happened and jeronimo was never going to get there anyway)

If a dive causes a red card, under the rules he should be banned.

Back on topic... the Nix had to pay FFA A$500 to be able to appeal Siggy's red, so if Dura doesn't get a fine then we could possibly put some of the money towards that.

How exactly? I'm punching while the ball is out of play, so not affected.
If you mean that it might raise the intensity of the game and cause a bit of a boilover, you're probably right. Much like geronimo's dive did.

My thinking was more along the lines of the FFA seeing Siggy foul but realising it wasn't a goal scoring opportunity so it didn't deserve the red card.

Interesting thought though...If Jeronimo didn't dive, play would of carried on as I don't think the ref would of called play back for the original foul (mostly because the ref is incompetent). I wonder how many of us would think we were lucky to get away with it.

More likely we'd wonder why he bought it back for the foul ;)

All this talk of it being an obvious foul is rubbish,it was a bloody harsh foul, siggy barely brushed the guys arm, you'd be up in arms if that was called anywhere else on the pitch, especially in the penalty box. The only reason he got the foul is because he made a meal of it. But that's a very subjective opinion.

But When looking at the facts,it still defies belief that the red card stood.

@ Frankie Mac Interesting questions. I think the fact that Dura went off so fully after the game and then with Ricki continuing it a couple of times has allowed this forum to go to town and stay out till later than usual.

I am wondering if it is a tactic from Ricki in particular to get into the officials early in the season. It will put them on notice a bit perhaps (and perhaps not, I dont know what actions they take amongst themselves after these incidents are brought to light.) He has put it fully out there in the media and if something else happens from here, then it adds to the Phoenix concerns about the standard of officiating.

How upset would we be if it was happening to another team. Not very I suspect. There is not much concern here for the handball penalty Perth missed out on, and debate on Fergussons question, what is a penalty.

I say support your team fully and back them. But I agree with drawing the lines.
I don't think the ref was a cheat, and shouldn't be called one, I dont think Durante would go that far.

I was happy that he spoke out after the game at the time and still am ok about it, what he said has been seen to be correct. But I wouldn't like him to go further than that, or often, and I don't think he will for a while, I expect he will be more controlled in his comments. I recognise that refs have good and bad games, and so do linesmen, it isnt good when both happen and they are against you.

I dont know if you can get an official YF level of support or non support, it is such a diverse mix

I think I'm digging a hole here. Punching a player is physically harming a player. Jeronimo's dive just made himself look stupid and wasn't necessary as the foul was already committed. I definitely worded it badly before and I am probably still not making my view very clear. I think a player should only be carded for diving if there was no foul committed on the player.

The rules do back you up to some extent. A player can only be banned if it caused a red card or a penalty.

Someone mentioned a few pages back that the money should be donated to the Fred Hollows Foundation. In 100% seriousness, that would be EPIC and hilarious. Charitable, ironic, and would surely be the best way to continue to send a message without looking too sour. Ask Dura, I bet he'd be all for it. That option's got my vote for sure.

I chipped in a twenty so I'm voting for the cash to go to the Fred Hollows Foundation for Blind Linesman. Restore sight for just $25? By my reckoning, the cash already collected could do, say, an underpopulated pacific atoll, or maybe the entire linesman and ref staff of the A-league. Not sure who needs it more.

Edit: he's being fined but not banned?

DO EEEET!
Also, Fred Hollows was an Aussie so it's a nice way of showing it's not an anti-aussie thing, just an anti-blind-refs-and-diving-cheats thing

Kosmina;

"Some players dive, some players don't," Kosmina said. "Some players milk fouls, some players don't. It's part and parcel of the game and it's part and parcel of sport. It's not cheating."

Much the same view as G.Neville.

They may very well be correct but that doesn't mean it's right. This behaviour has been allowed into the game by FIFA and their relaxed attitude to dealing with it, now teams/fans are paying the price every week. There was that funny training video doing the rounds some years back where a whole team is practicing diving and rolling - not really funny anymore, can hardly blame any team for actually practicing that given it is more odds-on to decide a game than say a shot from 30 yards.

Would get top marks for irony but surely the Fred Hollows Foundation are a little more deserving, plus surely a donation to the New Zealand Diving Team would come across as pointless and a little petty?

Surely there's a better place the YF money can go. Sure Dura is a good fund, but if he does get a fine then I think we all agree its probably deserved despite probably agreeing with him.

After YF having a mare in the past with $$$ (Website for example), I would have thought money was tight and all going towards updating this forum. I dont know if you have been paying Welnik, but surely he deserves some of our cash?

This is all assuming the money that YF is matching is from T-shirt revenue/sponsorship - if its just YF people's personal dollars then Im okay with it

Err - why would it matter if it is from revenue/sponsorship?  That is YF's decision.
We are just forum posters.

Edit: But however if YF had offered a $30 membership and a free t-shirt then I'd be majorly angsty.

Hmm I'm just saying that a lot of people who buy the shirts and use the site expect that the money we are spending is going towards improving the site, or gameday experience through use of banners etc.
I don't completely agree with the Dura fund, although I like the point it is making. But I'd personally rather see the $1000+ going to welnik or someone else who has been working so hard with little return.

Im not keen to start telling YF exec how to spend the YF money, with all the amazing work they put in that decision is completely theirs and I respect that 100%

however i do think PWF makes a good point. A couple of season tickets for welnik or something like that would be a lovely gesture

They do already.

While we're making suggestions they should invest in some song sheets and some people who can actually sing the "Go West" tune properly.

News mentioned a secret benefactor in a post on here about the flags. Maybe that's where the money is coming from, and not from t-shirt sales etc?

TBH what the fever do with their own money is their business. So if they want to match dollar for dollar then good on them. If you're unhappy about it then you don't have to donate. Simple.

i was pointing out  that if something doesn't affect the game, it doesn't mean it isn't a card-able offence - red card-able violent conduct being the best way to illustrate that...
