Officials make mistakes - that is a fact.  They do not have access to 5 different replays, from different angles and slowed down and paused to help them make decisions.  They make them instantly based on what they saw.  They are not cheating, and in every game both of the teams can highlight decisions that they are aggreived about.  You cannot tolerate abuse of officials becuase they were wrong.  For the good of the game, you cannot tolerate abuse of officials in any circumstance, let alone support it.

Yes they fined. But just cut the half of quote spanner!

it was boring

Yeah you say all that about refs not having numerous replays... how about the fact that theyre closer than the cameras anyway, or anyone else for that matter?

Linesman definitely should have got it either way.

The official being a cheat is not what is being debated

dura called out geronimo for cheating, and the ref/linesman for poor performances
can't argue with his logic but I agree that he should be fined

the FFA upholding siggy's card however, crazy

Interesting point made by gourdie;

"By saying what most of us were thinking, Durante also ensured the Phoenix grabbed the headlines after a loss which would have otherwise warranted a brief mention among most media outlets. His passionate tirade will appeal to a wider audience, which could translate to bums on seats at Westpac Stadium."

I've sent the link for the Dura fund to Ultimate A-League Podcast, The A-League Show (podcast), The Football Sack (podcast), and to Joseph Moore on twitter who is the football voice on the Big Sports Weekly Round Up podcast.

Hopefully it gets the attention it deserves and the FFA can't keep ignoring the Gillette factor

Go go gadget social media.

I chipped in a twenty so I'm voting for the cash to go to the Fred Hollows Foundation for Blind Linesman. Restore sight for just $25? By my reckoning, the cash already collected could do, say, an underpopulated pacific atoll, or maybe the entire linesman and ref staff of the A-league. Not sure who needs it more.

Edit: he's being fined but not banned?

I suspect Ricki will cop a bigger fine than Dura, after his comments last night. At least Dura's comments were made in the heat of the moment, Ricki hasn't got that excuse. (Not that I disagree with either of them, I hasten to add).

Asked this on the previous page, but after the Newcastle incident did we have any suspended fine or warning that will bump any fines up?

Well in yellow fever ! Congrats on making a stand !

As a jets fan I'm disgusted at the match review panels decision to not revoke sigmunds red.

And want to chip in for duras fine to send a message to the FFA that this crap just doesn't wash with aleague fans !

I hope other clubs fans will get on board too.

The support should be cos he played his heart out to get what should have at least been a good away point at Hindmarsh and had the game taken mostly out of his control through incompetence and deceit. Even if the last bit is subjective, the first bit isn't!

Was surprised to see Rickie had lashed out as well.Dont think its the smartest move given we are only four games into the season. Can us more of the bloody short straws, but then again its nothing new.

Just hope everyone moves on quickly as its to early in the season to focus to much on these incidents.

Perhaps welnix penned it and told ricki they'd foot the bill for any fine?

obviously just wild speculation but still... if I was gareth I'd think it a good idea - those words coming out of ricki's mouth make more ripples than any other non-playing staff involved with the club

So was anyone else down for an email bomb?

''I felt the player grab my t-shirt and I went down."

No no that's not a fairly standard definition of diving in Australian football at all. That doesn't sound like anything that could be called simulation! [/sarcasm font] [/size 10]

(not that we would email that or anything...)

Disagree, I think it should only be simulation if there was no foul. Shirt grabbing is a foul.

So the two steps after the 'foul' where he is perfectly balanced until he sees Paston has the ball don't count?

Surely the ref should of been playing advantage though. Paston got the ball so he got no advantage so should of gone back to foul.

can a ref give a yellow for a foul and then a yellow for a ridiculous dive taken two steps later?

jacob burns;

" ... some of the decisions that have been made, we've been on the wrong end.

''But that's right across the board.

''I watched the Adelaide game the other day, and same thing there."

on the funny side of things, burns has four yellows already ARF!

I have yet to see anyone denying a foul.  The issues are that it wasn't a red card it was a yellow and that Jeronimo dived once he couldn't get the ball.

Yellow for Sigmund. Yellow for Jeronimo.  Jeronimo sent off for second yellow and Sigmund available this week.

You're right, Jeronimo had already been booked. I had forgotten that little detail. Can feel the anger rising again.

Have you seen that sequence though ?

A yellow followed by a yellow.

To give the diver a yellow would likely mean the first yellow isnt justified

It all happened very quickly, at full pace. Very little chance of yellow yellow

I would be interested to hear from refs on the probabilities of giving a yellow yellow in situations like that.

The dive shouldn't get a yellow card though because it didn't affect the game. The foul was already committed and there was no advantage as Paston got the ball, play should go back to the foul. All the dived showed was how much of an idiot Jeronimo is.

For me, this shouldn't be a debate on what the correct decision for Siggy/Jeronimo was, but how the situation has been handled by both Durante and the club, and what part YF should be playing in it.  Where does YF draw the line and say "we do not support that kind of behaviour in the workplace":

* Durante calls the officials shocking

* Durante says an offical is fucking useless

* Durante calls an official a cheat

* Durante pushes an official over

* Durante gives an official a nipple gripple

* Durante punches an official

* Durante stabs an official with a shiv made out of a sharpened toothbrush

To be, these are progressively worse actions and we need to clarify exactly what we think is acceptable and what is not.  After that, every footballer in Wellington will be able to behave in that way to officials in any game in Wellington, if they think that they have any decision go against them.

Durante saying the officials were shocking in isolation may not seem much of a problem, but it is ultimatly condoning 22 players going up to the referee in every game in Wellington and telling him or her that they were shocking.  I imagine that Wellington has the same problems that affects football all over the world, namely a shortage of people wanting to referee games, and I don't think that this campaign is doing anything to help that problem.

awesome, love this new rule
next time i play i might wait til the ball goes out and punch my opposite in the chops - not hard enough to prevent him from playing on though, otherwise it would affect the game and i might be carded

for me the debate is wtf were the FFA up to with their retrospective action - not really a debate i guess, but that is the contentious issue in my opinion
